One of Moscow's most historic bathhouses, Rzhevskie Bani date back to 1888. Throughout the Soviet period this was one of the most popular baths in the capital and many of its regulars have been coming here for decades. Russian ritual and tradition is king and bathers here take the banya experience very seriously. It is seriously hot, so if you are not used to taking saunas, go easy on yourself. The areas for the essential post-banya cup of tea and chat are authentic 1930s design and the men's area is particularly large and boisterous at the weekend.
