If you are looking to stay in a very historical part of town the Hermitage is a great choice. Located just off the boulevard ring in the Pokrovka-Kitay Gorod area of the city, the Hermitage is surrounded by quiet back streets and tree-lined avenues which are filled with an old-fashioned charm that is difficult to find in other more modernised areas of the city centre. The hotel building itself is divided into three parts, all of which are gradually being brought up to date with new bathrooms, plasma TVs, plush beds and the like. The design scheme is very much 19th Century Moscow with lots of dark woods, old-fashioned looking lamps and lavish upholstery. As well as an extensive maritime themed restaurant and bar, the hotel also has a large conference space in the oldest part of the building, which still features old hand-painted Dutch tiling and intricate corn icing.
