Don’t wait for a rainy afternoon before visiting this museum in the town centre, it is a truly wonderful place to take the family, or visit alone. Their permanent exhibition, Living In Celje, depicts the lives of everyday people that lived and worked in the city throughout the 20th century. Presented in a diary form you follow three generations of the same family and learn about their everyday lives and also the difficulties they would have encountered during the troubled periods of WW2 and socialist times. Although fictitious the journal entries are presented alongside memorabilia from each decade, such as clothing, books, toys, photographs and uniforms, which brings each era to life and gives a true insight of how individuals may have viewed the changing world around them. Upstairs you’ll walk through a delightful replica street and see local businesses like the tailor, jeweller, shoemaker and barbar. The second section of the museum is dedicated to children and exhibitions change every 18-24 months. Currently on show is the Dancing Earth exhibit where children can learn about the Earth’s position in the galaxy, different countries and regions and also how food and plants grow. There’s toys from various era’s and countless interactive displays to keep those little fingers busy. The museum also hosts birthday parties and has exceptional facilities for blind and disabled children.
