The Freedom Jazz Festival is a festival devoted to jazz music especially as it's applied to the context of filmmaking. As jazz is considered the language of freedom and rebellion, characterised by its unpredictable nature and the way it resists being typecast into one category—it's not surprising to learn that the whole genre was nearly banned in communist Poland, especially in the years of 1947 to 1956. As WWII ended, however, more and more creative and ambitious jazz musicians emerged onto the musical landscape of the country. Whether you consider yourself a jazz savant or you haven't really had the chance to explore the genre yet, the organizers have set up this festival and its accompanying events in a way that ensures everyone can find a little piece of enjoyment to call their own.
