What started off as a novelty turned into a downright obsession with monuments. Unveiled between 2009-15, ten Łódź Bajkowa (Fairytale Łódź) monuments are dotted around the city, depicting cartoon characters created by the famous Se-ma-for animation studio in Łódź. The most well-known (and first to be unveiled on October 24, 2009) is Miś Uszatek - a fictional cartoon bear, who has been entertaining Polish kids (and helping put them to bed) since 1957 - standing proudly at ul. Piotrkowska 87 with his trademark floppy ear. Visit the Łódź Tourism Organisation to get your free 'Fairytale Trail' (Bajkowy Szlak) guide for kids, which will keep them entertained for hours as they hunt out the statues - luckily for you, they're all located at or near top sightseeing and entertainment venues (call it a 'carrot on a stick' recommendation)! An ideal activitiy for the outdoors!
