The Sheraton this ain’t, but neither is this the standard hotel experience. Arrival is via hair raising roads that twist and turn inside the depths of the Łagiewnicki nature reserve, with the entrance barred by an electronic gate guarded by some WWII artillery. Interested? Read on. Dating from 1896 this ivy clad residence isn’t unlike the spooky house in Scooby Doo, and complete with stuffed animals and antique detritus clogging the reception. From there creak up the wooden stairs to find cheerful rooms decorated with spindly plants and wonky lampshades. This isn’t so much a hotel as a trip back in time, and definitely worth a look if you fancy a departure from the regular hotels downtown. It’s far from plush, certainly, but recommended for something utterly different.
