A 13th century beauty that stands unchallenged as the major attraction in town, Conwy Castle is one of the best castles in Europe. Built in the 13th century as Edward I continued his conquest across Wales, the castle was outrageously expensive at the time it was constructed, costing up to £15,000. It has seen plenty of history over the centuries, some good, some bad, and UNESCO decided it was more than worthy of a place on its much-vaunted World Heritage list. The castle is ruined but in the best way possible, making for a fascinating way to spend many hours in Conwy. It also gets lit up at night, which is way more beautiful than you realise.
