Born in Bydgoszcz in 1954, Grzegorz Bednarski has been associated with the Kraków art scene since his university days at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated with a diploma from the studio of Jan Szancenbach in 1980. Today he is the head of his own painting studio at the Academy, and was given the tile of professor in 2016. This exhibit of Bednarski's paintings and drawings is described in art-speak by curator Małgorzata Kitowska-Łysiak as follows:

"The fate of this work has shown that the concept of its author's art is situated between extremes. On the one hand, he is characterized by great sensual sensitivity - to the external beauty of things, on the other - equally great care to give reality the fullest possible plastic expression, to translate its experience into the language of abstract by nature, but "meaningful" painterly forms. This intention is well expressed by Grzegorz Bednarski's statement: Art is a form, and whatever it is - an onion, an apple or the Crucifixion - will be a form."
