Amongst Zabrze's more bizarre architectural monuments (and there are quite a few), is this fearsome water tower. Constructed between 1907 and 1909 to a design by August Kinda, this incredibly unique secessionist structure features eight brick buttresses supporting the water tank, which is covered with a strange octagonal roof topped with a lantern. At 46 metres this marvel remains one of the tallest buildings in Upper Silesia today and were it still illuminated rather than in disrepair, you might mistake it for a wacky wayward lighthouse.
