Climb a grand marble staircase to reach Cristallo, the stunning show-piece restaurant of the Monopol Hotel. A glass roof allows guests to watch the evening unravel above them, while the discreet interiors of bare brick walls and steel tubing lend a minimalist aesthetic to the experience. Select from the imaginative Italian (and Polish) inspired menu with succulent dishes from duck to a choice of grilled fish. You pay for the quality here, and it comes as no surprise that diners trek across Silesia to do so.

Oh dear what a sterile venue. There is a good wine list and the food is good and well presented, it was somewhat overpriced, however. The dining experience was of eating in an airport lounge without the noise. There is absolutely no atmosphere here; the waiting staff seemed to think they were serving at the Waldorf [except they don't serve like this at the Waldorf] and even though we were the only two dining, their cold attitude did nothing to make us feel welcome. Indeed, we had to distract them from watching their tv to our presence!
