If you are interested in the German history of Kaliningrad and the forts or if you simply like pigs ears and lashings of beer, make a beeline for this place. Set inside one of the redoubts on the eastern side of the inner ring of fortifications, this is a beautiful conversion of an old red brick defence into a two-storey German restaurant. They brew their own beer on-site and that's served up to the casual crowd sat on wooden benches downstairs or to the more civilised patrons sitting upstairs. The food is good. The beer is very good. The staff are lederhosened up and friendly. Recommended particularly if you're doing a walking tour of the inner ring. Plan your walk so you can do like we did - finish your day by putting your feet up and tucking in.
