Located on the north-west bank of the Upper Pond, the Yunost Park (Youth Park) features a funfair with ferries wheel, a go-cart track, an ‘Upside down’ house and a winter ice rink. The central feature is a large manor house which was built to house the Russian Language Research Centre but which currently stands empty. Back in 2007 locals drew attention to the poor condition of the park to, the then wife of Vladimir Putin, Lyudmila Putina (who was born and raised in Kaliningrad). Mrs Putin lent her support and the park received a welcome renovation making it one of the most popular places for Kaliningraders, particularly those with young families. The park also features a few memorials including one remembering troops killed in Afghanistan.
