Book your tickets for this year's landmark fashion event – SAFW Mall of Africa
Dress up, practise your air kisses and make sure to get to Mall of Africa for this. SA Fashion Week (SAFW presents the Autumn/Winter 23 Collections, rolling out the red carpet, and rolling down the catwalk from Thu, Oct 20 to Sat, Oct 22, with 23 designers showcasing new collections on stage and 40 designers displaying at the trade show in the Mall's Crystal Court on Sat, Oct 23 and Sun, Oct 24. Shop with art in Sandton and Melrose Arch
Through a partnership with Artyli and renowned local sculptor, Anton Smit this outdoor sculpture show has given Nelson Mandela Square vivid new life. This installation is a part of the buzz-worthy new Art, Live on the Square event series presented by the retail and lifestyle hub. The Colossal exhibition at Nelson Mandela Square is on until Mon, Oct 31 2022. Another worthwhile visit is to the indoor and outdoor SculptX fair at Melrose Gallery at Melrose Arch. This fifth edition is the largest yet with around 80 sculptors presenting their artworks across different themes, mediums, and scale. The highlight is a five-metre Roger Rabbit at the top of the Melrose Arch High Street. On show until Oct 16.
Collect African craft at Rosebank Mall
The African Craft Market experience was developed as a concept to provide much-needed assistance to the Rosebank Art & Craft Market, whose traders were severely impacted by lockdowns and the closure of tourism. As part of Rosebank Mall's celebration of Heritage Month you can explore items from 30 of the 114 exhibitors from the Rosebank Art & Craft Market who each week present their goods inside the main Rosebank Mall on Level 2 next to Pick n Pay and Level 3 in the Hi-Fi Corp corridor
What's new at 44 Stanley?
The boutique shopping destination, 44 Stanley has welcomed a few changes this month. Petal and Post has moved from a studio to a shop and good news is that you can now buy posies and gift boxes in-store and of course online as always. The Drum Archive Shop (previously called BAHA) has been busy with some rebranding and is ready for your visit. Dainty Frocks opens in October, you can find them at the store previously occupied by Hers His Home —who also have renovations underway, and are expected to reopen in October, across from IFUKU. And speaking of IFUKU, your favourite t-shirts are back in stock. Sadly the Brunch Shop closes on Sep 30.
Support local cool at 99 Design Store in Braamfontein
The fresh addition to Braamfontein's 99 Juta store includes 99 Design Store. A cool, trendy and colourful multi-label store. For the fashion killers, you can look forward to unique clothing items and home decor items from emerging local designers. 99 Juta store also has a co-working space, dodge the load shedding and keep cracking with wifi, coffee and pizza to nibble on. Find them at 99 Juta Street, open Wed–Sat 10:00-17:00.
Block & Chisel opens new flagship store in Sandton
Block & Chisel, a renowned name in interior design, has unveiled a sizable new flagship location in Johannesburg. The store, which joins many of the nation's top decor brands spans more than 6000 square metres, filled with its distinctive furniture design and manufacturing, as well as a skillful selection of fimported items. Expect a mix of traditional and modern, rustic and contemporary, and European and Asian interior design to adorn your home. Find them at 11 Charles Crescent, Strathavon right next to Kramerville.
H&M HOME opens first standalone store in South Africa
You heard it here first! The debut of H&M HOME's first independent store in Sandton City has us all giddy! Creating an exciting interior and lifestyle destination with a really vivid shopping experience, the store will showcase the newest trends and goods with everything from fine bed linens and classic crockery to textiles. Thebe Magugu ties up Adidas, H&M rocks the daisies and Puma adds Cotton
Luxury South African fashion brand Thebe Magugu has stepped it up a notch. You may notice pieces from the Thebe Magugu x Adidas collection during one of the most important hard court tennis tournaments this summer. Notable sportsmen Dana Mathewson, Felix Auger Aliassime, Daria Kasatkina, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jessica Pegula, Garbie Muguruza, and Dominic Thiem will debut key pieces from the Thebe Magugu x Adidas collection. We salute local designers who are taking the world by storm! The line is currently offered in Adidas retail locations and online. At H&M Sandton City you'll find The Daisies 2022 Fashion Fits series especially designed for the festival. And Puma joins the pack with Puma x Cotton Fest collection. The "University of Cotton Fest" concept of the festival served as inspiration for this collection, which was created in partnership with the late beloved fashion-forward rapper Riky Rick. The collection's DNA is based on 90s football jerseys, enduring fashion statement items.
