It's a family day out where innovation, creativity, and sustainable solutions for the future reign supreme at Goethe-Institut in Parkwood, which is hosting the Joburg iteration of the 2024 Science Film Festival. This engaging event promotes science literacy and fosters awareness of contemporary scientific, technological, and environmental issues through a series of film screenings, accompanied by hands-on educational activities and interactive discussions.
The jam-packed programme caters for all ages, with a roster of special activities for children from birth to age five (caregivers included), five to eight, nine to 11, 12 to 16, and 16 and older. Follow @goethejoburg on Instagram for more details in the lead-up to the event.
According to this year's theme, the festival focuses on showcasing the importance of net zero concepts and the circular economy in addressing pressing climate challenges. This international event runs in 30 countries and has grown considerably since its first edition in 2005, reaching more than half a million on-site viewers annually.
Other local partners in hosting the 2024 Science Film Festival include Play Africa based at the Constitution Hill precinct, and the Centre for the Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
