The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra's 2024 Spring Season

The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) continues to go from triumph to triumph. If you haven't yet been to one of their live performances at the Linder Auditorium, now's your chance. And for more seasoned fans, this year's Spring programme is sure to delight.

The JPO's Spring Season runs from Thu, Oct 24 – Thu, Nov 14, presenting an exciting four-week line-up of classical concerts that see the orchestra collaborating with leading local and international guest conductors and soloists. Expect masterpieces by the likes of Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Chopin alongside popular works by Dvořák, Brahms, and Bruch.

This special gala opening of the Spring Season is a joint performance by the Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestras. The gala stars two renowned artists: conductor Marcelo Lehninger, known for his musical intelligence and technical precision that enhances the essence of the music, and pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, celebrated for her captivating performances and interpretive skill.

Concert 2: Thu, Oct 31 at 19:30

The brilliant guest conductor Rebecca Tong is resident conductor of the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra and artistic director of Ensemble Kontemporer. Tong is passionate about introducing Indonesian audiences to both classical and contemporary orchestral music. Her performances blend education and artistry, and she is constantly looking for ways to expand her repertoire. She's joined by Soyoung Yoon, who has been applauded as one of the greatest violinists of her generation.

Concert 3: Thu, Nov 7 at 19:30

Rory Macdonald, a dynamic conductor known for his intellectual rigour and passionate engagement in both opera and concert performances, is conducting the orchestra for the third concert. His broad repertoire, spanning from Dowland to MacMillan, has fostered successful collaborations with top artists and production teams. Joining Macdonald is Russian-American classical pianist Olga Kern, who is widely recognised for her keen musicianship and glorious on-stage presence and technique.

The final programme of the JPO's Spring Season sees conductor Rebecca Tong take to the podium once more. Violinist Daniel Rowland and cellist Maja Bogdanovic, who were recently part of the 2024 Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, are sure to delight orchestra enthusiasts with their masterful artistry.
