In 2018 the Joburg Open and the SA Open merged to become the newly revamped SA Open championship, now in its 109th year. The tournament takes place at Joburg's Randpark Golf Club, across the highly rated golf club's two world-class courses; Firethorn and Bushwillow, which border the elegant Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, one of the top boutique hotel and golf resorts in the region.

The SA Open is one of the biggest events on the Sunshine Tour and this year the event's player host is Louis Oousthuizen, winner of the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews and the winner of last year's SA Open championship. Other major names in world golf competing at this year's SA Open include fellow South Africans Charl Schwartzel and Brandon Grace.
