The magnificent Nan Hua Buddhist Temple (located in Bronkhorstspruit, about an hour's drive northeast of Joburg) was donated by Taiwanese Buddhists when Taiwan had close ties with South Africa. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere. The temple's annual Chinese New Year celebration is a traditional and fun cultural experience for the whole family.

This year's celebration takes place on Sun, Feb 2 (the fifth day of the Lunar New Year). Start your day at 09:30 with the Light Offering Dharma Function in the Main Shrine, then from 10:00 – 15:00, celebrate the Chinese New Year with an opening ceremony, dazzling multicultural performances, and all-day delights such as cultural stalls, meditation exhibits, and a magical Wishing Tree to share your dreams with.
