Soft Landing is the result of Joseph Awuah-Darko's residency with Nirox: an exhibition of new sculptural, photographic, and tapestry works that explore the vulnerability and intimacy of rituals, both those we engage with ceremonially as those that are part of our every day. During his time with Nirox, Awuah-Darko deepened his exploration of woven philosophy within a more sculptural context. The Ghanaian artist's solo show is split between the Covered Space and Residency Workshop, set within the sprawling Nirox Sculpture Park

In his amorphous, floating sculptures Awuah-Darko has made interesting use of cables ties. "The poetry of that mechanism is that once you squeeze it, you can’t undo it. There’s a permanency to it. That was quite cathartic. In a way it ties to another motif in my practice: this exploration of identity and how we are bound by certain social structures, or our perception of ourselves. By words. By thoughts and other isms," he notes.

Soft Landing runs at the Nirox Sculpture Park until Wed, Nov 15
