A photo essay by South African landscape photographer Clint Strydom. In this series Strydom explores the haunting empty spaces of Constitution Hill’s notorious Number Four prison, which is now a museum and for this exhibition, serves as the venue. During the 20th Century the Number Four prison block was notorious for its rampant police brutality. Prisoners, who included common criminals and political prisoners, were victims of regular beatings and ritual humiliations at the hands of their jailors and were regularly deprived of food or clothing. In his photography Strydom seeks to capture the haunting emptiness of the old cells and to "record the silent cries that once roared through the thick walls of incarceration."<br /> <br /> Opening event Thursday May 18 at 18:00.
