This new collection of sculptures and paintings were all created during the artist's recent residency. At the centre of the exhibition are five huge new 'Crumple' sculptures, made from massive sheets of crumpled metal that are welded together and then painted in shimmering colours. Barry's distinctive crumple sculptures are inspired by the form of crumpled up paper and by the invisible “crumple zones” found in cars that buckle on impact in order to absorb force.
The exhibition opens on Sat Jan 22 at 11:00. To attend the launch email anthea@forms.gallery. Until February 4 visitors also have the chance to visit Barry's artist studio at the park. The sculpture park is open to the public on weekends and public holidays from 10:00–16:00. Entrance costs R120 (R70 with restaurant reservations), kids R60.
