This annual contemporary dance festival features an outstanding programme of new choreography and international collaborations by leading names in South African contemporary dance. This year all performances (with the exception Worker's Chant) take place at Wits Theatre.

Highlights of the 2017 festival include:
23.02 and 24.02, Worker’s Chant, a dedication to Joburg’s black migrant workers performed in the Workers Museum, a downtown building that once functioned as a squalid mineworkers compound.
24.02 and 25.02, Corps, an exploration of the ancestral history of South Africa, Madagascar and France, merging the past and modern day world, through photography and dance.
24.02 and 25.02, De-Apart-Hate, a discourse engaging with the struggles of South Africa as a rainbow nation, highlighting the underlying fact that ultimately the 'oppressor' is still a human and not superior to others.
28.02 and 01.03, A triple bill by leading South African dance companies Moving Into Dance Mophatong and Vuyani Dance Theatre.
02.03 and 03.03, Lady, Lady a collaboration between three female artists from South Africa, Mozambique and Madagascar that presents a journey into the female universe, focusing particularly on the value of women in modern day society.
02.03 and 03.03, In the Heart of the Country a physical exploration of race, inspired by the JM Coetzee’s literature and its “impossible dialogue” between races, and Njabulo Ndebele’s book Rediscovery of the Ordinary.
02.03 and 03.03, Down to Earth a dance duet dealing with identities that are shaped by increasingly complex systems. Using dance, music and cultural artefacts, alien identities are constructed and deconstructed with the burning question: “Do we have the choice of breaking out of these identities?”

See the full programme online at danceforumsouthafrica.co.za.
