Black Forest Bakery
The Black Forest story goes back to post-war 1940s Germany where at the age of 14 a young, ambitious and passionate Werner Speer started his apprenticeship learning the fine art of German bread baking. In 1970 Werner arrived in South Africa and he and his wife bought a small coffee shop in the Joburg City Centre where Werner then shared his baking skills and talents. Everything is still baked as Werner was first taught back in the Black Forest town of Pforzheim. The bakery's team of artisan bakers lovingly handcraft all items and everything is made exclusively with natural ingredients.
Among the many, many highlights that deserve a place in your shopping basket are the classic pretzels, a multitude of different rye breads, Berlin-style jam doughnuts, irresistible orange cake, strudel and traditional biscuits like spekulaas.
