Originally opened in 1987 and still the Gold Coast's only five-star beachfront resort, the Sheraton is something of the grand old dame of Main Beach, but this prestigious Starwood property is none the worse for wear after undergoing extensive renovations in recent years. In fact, when you first set foot in the lobby it's hard to believe your eyes, as you're immediately greeted by sweeping views of the sprawling lagoon-style pool lined with palm trees swaying the breeze and the open Pacific Ocean receding all the way to the horizon in the distance. Rooms range from merely spacious to multi-room villas rooftop villas that are larger than most apartments. The oasis-like setting that feels a world away from the rest of the city and first-class service make it a popular staycation destination for locals, while the in-house Terraces restaurant is famed for its seafood buffet and the Marina Mirage shopping centre is just across the road and conveniently accessible via a footbridge.
