Hajongard Cemetery
Simply put, Hajongard Cemetery is one of the most picturesque cemeteries in Transylvania. Established way back in 16th century, this idyllic spot to the south of the city centre covers around 14 hectares and is the final resting place of a number of iconic historic individuals, from writers like Miklós Bánffy to scientific geniuses such as Emil Racoviță, the first biologist on the planet to study arctic life. In many way the tombs are secondary to the character and serenity of the place, although don’t tell the dead that.
