The little peninsula north of Chania name Akrotiri is the area of the Chania International Airport near Souda Bay. Anyway, there are more reasons to make a trip there except for taking the flight back. About 15 minutes drive will take you to the magnificent Stavros Beach. Akrotiri Peninsula is also famous for its holy places. The most famous of the three monasteries is Agia Triada (Holy Trinity), founded in 1612. A little bit further you will find the fortress-like Gouverneto, which is ¾-century older than the former. The most ancient site for worship anyway is the abandoned sixth-century monastery called Katholiko and built into the cliff.
