Stavros was almost entirely unknown village six decades ago before the scenery of the location gained global fame. The beach and the reddish camel-back-like mountain were used as the stage to shot Zorba the Greek movie starring Anthony Quinn. After that became a popular destination for thousands of travelers every year.
