Situated in the Venetian built Firka Fortress, the nautical museum of Chania was built in 1973 to commemorate the Battle of Crete. The maritime history of the town and the region is followed as far back in time as the Minoan era and the Bronze age. Anyway, 2nd millennium AD is much more emphasized, including more recent events like the Greek war for Independence (1821-29) and the German invasion during WWII. The Maritime Museum of Crete works year-round, and the entry is only 2.50 Euro for the adults.
