Bydgoszcz's charming Market Hall building in the historic centre was built between 1904-1906. When it's 96 stalls eventually opened up to the public, the facilities were regularly surveyed by a resident hall inspector, veterinarian and the nearby police station. The goal of this operation was to raise the standards of hygiene in the city's food trade, a legacy which has further been celebrated in the Museum of Soap and the history of Dirt. Since 2016, the building has been under renovations and it doesn't look like they'll be finished anytime soon, unfortunately! We've been told that, when it eventually reopens, the Market Hall will continue to support local produce and include other facilities for cultural activities and entertainment. Until then, we can appreciate its exterior and already-renovated façade.
