Maybe we have been harsh in the past with our reviews of Nicoresti. It is, after all, one of the most celebrated Romanian restaurants in the city, and given that the service - always our biggest problem with the place - has improved no end of late, we think it is about time we give it another chance. We suggest you do the same, for the food has always been very good. The ciolan de porc (pork knuckle) with beans is legendary: ask anyone in the city!
What is this nonsense about bad service? I wanted to sample many different items on the menu but didn't like their standard sampler choices so I asked the waitress if I could choose a few dishes myself and get sampler size portions from each - and to charge me only for the smaller portion sizes (not full price per meal). She did it with a smile! I have NEVER been able to do this in any restaurant anywhere in the world. The food was all delicious - I can still taste the blasc0vian (spelling) pancakes, shepherd's bulz and "sparrow's milk" dessert . The menu descriptions are wonderful for non-Romanians.

IYP has never had anything good to say about Nicoresti. We don't care - - we love it, and so does almost everyone else. The menu is enormous, dishes are authentic, well prepared, and nicely served. We're always pleasant to the waiters, and they in turn are pleasant to us. One time one of the waiters even told us about a special dish the chef makes that isn't on the menu; we ordered it and it was delicious. Alex is spot on about the terrace, where you can spend hours sipping excellent Romanian wines and listening to conversations at the other tables - - conversations in a myriad of languages, because *everyone* goes to Nicoresti!

This is one of the best traditional places in Bucharest (even though portions have got smaller lately). It does not look great (rather on the down side actually), but dishes are well cooked and the menu is diverse. The ciorbas are recommended, and so are the fish dishes. One of the best time to go there is on a lazy summer afternoon, on their back terrace.
