A sleepy village of less than a thousand people, Kulen Vakuf might not exactly jump out at you as an obvious place to visit. But don’t be fooled by its tiny proportions and unassuming image — this is a charming little town with plenty to offer. There is history all around, Ottoman reminders of a town the Turks referred to as Džisr-i-kebir (‘Great Bridge’ in Turkish). Found within the borders of the Una National Park, the eponymous river flows through the town with that beguilingly effortless ease that only the Una can produce, giving Kulen Vakuf a sheen that is easy to fall for. Its mosque is one of the most picture-perfect in the region (not to mention one of the most peculiar), and there are a couple of good food and drink options to keep you busy at night. If you’re looking to stay somewhere within the national park, consider Kulen Vakuf.
