The proliferation of students and younger tourists makes for a healthy bar and club scene in Veliko Turnovo. Several of the bars are owned by British or Irish expats, while the nightclubs seem to be in the hands of a couple of local businesses.
Generally speaking, this is a quiet town and there is not much trouble or danger, even late at night. Drugs are sold in some of the bars and there may be occasional police raids. There are no strip clubs here and no overt advertising of escort services. Turnovo nightclubs charge between 3 and 5 leva entry, or it may be free for women on certain nights. Drink prices are reasonable, no higher than in most bars.
