Statia is a paradise for nature lovers. The central part is completely flat which is why the airport was built here, but on either side are great hiking opportunities. The Quill, a perfectly formed volcano, is located at the southern end of the island and dominates Statia's skyline. Most visitors tend to forget the northern area of St. Eustatius where a series of hills are part of the weathered remnants of this volcano. Recommended walks in this area include Boven (289m), Bergje (223m), Gilboa Hill, Signal Hill (234m) and Pilot Hill.
