Hato, which is one of the biggest and oldest plantation houses on Curacao, is conveniently located next to the airport. It was once known for its spring which was used to irrigate local crops, but which now provides water for the first vineyard in the Dutch Caribbean. In the past the building was used as a country house for VIPs of the world's first multinational, the Dutch West Indian Company.
