Nuclear shelters in the 21st century are almost quaint. Visitors check them out with a spring in their step, revelling in the apparent neurosis of previous generations. It is easy to forget that the fear of nuclear obliteration was very real back in the day, and these shelters were designed in order to lengthen life as much as possible. Brno’s 10-Z shelter was only to be used by a chosen few, although it has been open to the public since 2016.
