Found around 5km north of the old town in Gdansk, the district of Wrzeszcz (pronounced V-zeh-sh-ch) is where you'll find the heart of Gdansk's student community, the city's commercial district and the childhood home of Nobel Laureate Gunter Grass. Increasingly fashionable, the run-down pre-war streets are receiving a facelift and there are a small but growing number of bars, cafes and restaurants worth checking out as well as some sights worth hunting down. You can read more about the history of Wrzeszcz (Langfuhr) in our feature on the district.
