Gdańsk

[closed] Tram Tours

Brama Wyżynna, Gdansk ,   No District         more than a year ago
Each summer the local public transport organisation give people the opportunity to experience riding around the city on a couple of classic, renovated tram cars. In previous years they’ve dusted off their old 1927 Bergmann, which was built here in Gdansk (Danzig) as well as a Konstal N and a Ring. The Konstal N, was built in 1952 in Chorzów and served the population of the southern city until being retired in the late 1970s. The Ring was also built here in Gdansk in the 1930s and returned to the city in 2016 following renovation in Germany.

The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and runs from the stop close to the Upland Gate (Brama Wyżynna), past the European Solidarity Centre and up to Nowy Port and the old lighthouse there where the first shots of WWII were fired. After a stop there which will allow you time to visit the lighthouse (included in ticket price) the tram returns to the Upland Gate via Brzezno and Aleja Zwyciestwa (passing the Baltic Opera). The tour is accompanied by a member of the PTTK Tour Guide Association and though the tours are in Polish, you'll normally be able to ask questions in English.

If you have ever read the books of Gunter Grass you will be familiar with his characters travelling up and down between Danzig and Langfuhr (Gdansk and Wrzeszcz) on trams such as the Bergmann and it makes for a memorable experience. Trams run on Saturdays and Sundays from June 24 until August 27 as well as the public holiday on August 15.

Trams depart Brama Wyżynna at 11:15 and 13:15. Following a stop at the Nowy Port Lighthouse trams depart at 12:25 and 14:25.
