One thing to remember about hotels and tourism in Kostroma in general is that tourism here is geared towards the package tourist or Russians who arrive by car, mostly from Moscow. Therefore there are few hotels in the centre and most are quite a walk from Susanin Square as tourists are expected to drive or take a tour bus to their destinations. Most of the hotels listed below are about a 30-minute or longer walk from the heart of the centre. One exception is Mush at Sovietskaya 29, so if location is important it could be worth a try. It should be noted that taxis are quite cheap in Kostroma and 70-100Rbl rubles should get you anywhere from a hotel to a central location. Almost all buses and marshrutkas go through the centre and usually stop on Susanin Square. Just look for Центр on the destination sign usually presented in big letters. It costs 12Rbl to ride and pay when you get on.
