If you've never seen the film Jiro Dreams of Sushi, we highly recommend tracking down a copy, streaming it online or downloading it illegally from your preferred torrent site. Not only is it one of the greatest documentaries ever made, but it's also one of the most inspirational films we've ever seen, which tells the story of sushi master Jiro Ono and his famed 3-Michelin star restaurant with 10 seats located in a Tokyo metro underpass. Hidden away in Ljubljana's aesthetically-challenged (to put it diplomatically) Ledina Center complex, Sato Bento is not only arguably the best Japanese restaurant in Slovenia, but it's the closest thing you'll get to the Sukiyabashi Jiro experience, only here chef Shin Sato's omakase dinner menu will only set you back €25-42 instead of €300, and lunches start at an even more pocket-friendly €7. Reservations are always a good idea, unless you don't mind waiting, as the small cosy space is almost guaranteed to be packed during peak hours.
