This large body of water, linking 3 nearby rivers - the Vistula, Narew and Wkra - is the summer playground of Varsovians and those living nearby, who wish to get away from the city and enjoy the beaches, bars and water sports. And no wonder, as it's only 20km north-east of Warsaw. To say this place is a place of relaxation may be slightly overstated as when the good weather hits, it's quite a tight squeeze for space! This isn't always the case, however, and people can't be blamed for wishing to throw themselves in the water when temperatures go above 30ºC! From spring to autumn the lake is full of yachts and other vessels, but come winter, the reservoir traffic turns to ice-skating (if you feel brave enough!). The public beach, pier and volleyball pitch are the most popular attractions, however, if being on a crowded beach is not your thing, the surrounding area has plenty of quiet tourist trails to enjoy.
Getting to Zegrze reservoir from Warsaw
Getting there can be done easily using the ‘Zefir’ ferry (Fri, Sat & Sun until end of Aug and then Sat & Sun until 13 Sep) at 09:00 in front of the Royal Castle at ‘Podzamcze’ or 09:15 from the Żeran Canal (summer only, each Sat & Sun until 13 September) near bus stop Cementownia 02. A one way journey costs 36zł normal fare, and 18zł reduced. The ferry will take you to the northern part of the reservoir to the town of Serock where you have two hours before the return journey. Alternatively, more regularly, take bus 735 from Metro Marymont bus stop 15, which will take you to the southern part of the reservoir in the town of Nieporęt (photo below) to stop Zegrze Południe and requires a zone 2 ticket. If the busy beaches are not your thing, the surrounding area has plenty of quiet tourist trails to enjoy.
Just an open question:
Is the Zegrze Reservoir (Nieporęt) not feeded by the same water as the Wisla river (as why swimming in the wisla is deemed unhygienic here , many people jump in the water at places near Villanow.
