This, you could say, is the original: the first commie-flavour modernist high-rise built in Wrocław after WWII, before blocks of flats became commonplace. As the name might imply, Dom Naukowców was built to house scientists working at the Wrocław Polytechnic (now the University of Science and Technology) during severe shortages of living space which plagued Poland after the war. Situated on Plac Grunwaldzki, which had been razed in 1945, this 10-story building was designed by Edmund Frąckiewicz, Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak, Igor Tawryczewski, and Maria Tawryczewska and built in the years 1959-1961.
