Dizajn Gallery presents an exhibit about the legendary Elwro Wrocław Electronic Plant. Elwro isn’t just a pioneer in the computer industry (it manufactured the first Polish line of computers, named Odra), but also one of the first places that started thinking about how to professionally build a company’s visual identification - this was back in the 1960’s, when good ol’ communism meant chronic shortages and a lack of market competition, making such frills largely unnecessary. The graphic designers behind all this newfangled aesthetic appeal were actually local artists, who were responsible for everything from the logo to catalogues and expo stands. The exhibition will be divided into three parts to chronicle Elwro’s evolution over the years: entry into the market, absorption into trade association Mera followed by the creation of a graphic and industrial design studio, and the fall of Mera in the 1980s, which prompted the creation of a new logo.
