This high-standard hotel was built to honour the late Pope's second visit to Wrocław, and has since played host to numerous cardinals and arch-bishops, diplomats and dignitaries, including best-selling writer and historian Norman Davies, as well as the political brothers Jarosław and the late Lech Kaczyński. Nevermind the gaudy entrance, this hotel is exceedingly tasteful once inside, including an absolutely stunning lobby, some very stately conference facilities, and a range of comfortable rooms, suites and apartments that feature outstanding views of Ostrów Tumski's ancient architectural monuments and the large botanical gardens. Fittingly, the building even has its own chapel with a 17th century painting of the Virgin Mary, and the terrace restaurant is perhaps the best place to eat in the district.
I would have to say that this has to be one of the best hotels in Wroclaw when considering price and a good location. I stayed in an apartment for 12 nights and then left Wroclaw for more than a week before returning for my last night in Wroclaw. I stayed in a single room and it was small but nicely furnished and very, very clean. I had a view of the Cathedral and the old street below! I am glad that I paid at check-in though because they tried to pull a switch on me and I would NOT have known this had I not seen the price then. They had put me into a double room for single use and the price was higher than the single room. They assumed that I wanted a bigger bed??? But the guy at the desk changed it without any trouble so I did not care. Then my first room's air conditioner would NOT turn on so I had to change rooms and I was really worried because the first room was spotless so I wondered if I would get a room as clean as the first but I did. It was a little annoying but NOT a huge problem because I only had to go into the room next door so I did NOT complain. Both rooms had great views and both rooms were very clean. The bathroom was big compared to the single room itself and it was also tidy. The cafe in the hotel was GREAT and had an amazing view as well. Awesome apple pie! The cabbage rolls were decent in the restaurant. And the breakfast room was beautiful with a great view of the Botanical Garden. It is NOT near the Market Square but the walk to there is very nice and not too long. I stayed near the Market Square for 12 nights and it was fairly noisy. Ostrow Tumksi was very peaceful and relaxing. For the price, you cannot go wrong at this hotel. Oh, the women working in the Post Office off of the lobby were AWFUL and MEAN!!! But I assume that that should not reflect upon the service in this hotel.
