The Ethno Jazz Festival invites you to the Bulgarian Wine Festival “Trifon Zarezan” taking place on February 12th at Stary Klasztor. Trifon Zarezan is a holiday of wine celebrated in Bulgarian and other Balkan countries. Modern day celebrations include liturgy at an Orthodox church, then going to a vineyard where a man performs the traditional cutting of the grapevine, followed by copious feasting and dancing. Stojan Uzunow - the man responsible for bringing this tradition to Poland - will introduce the festival and Sarakina Balkan Band will perform. Formed in 1999, Sarakina Balkan Band is a Polish/Bulgarian music group that combines traditional Balkan sounds (accordion, clarinet, tambura) with folk, jazz and world music. After the cutting of the grapevines, those in attendance will have the chance to learn traditional Bulgarian dances like prawo horo and raczenica.
