Possibly both the best and the worst restaurant in Vilnius, this veritable institution and die-hard anomaly has been delighting and depressing diners and drinkers for what seems to be forever. Often frequented by an odd assemblage of locals who still haven’t completely let go of the 1970s, the menu features a selection of average Lithuanian and international dishes which you might want to avoid in favour of lapping up the unique atmosphere and, when it's sunny, drinking far too much beer on one of the best riverside terraces in the known Universe.
We were disappointed with our experience at Kavine Uzupis. It’s only plus is a nice location. Starting with untrained waitress who morosely cleaned the tables ignoring the customers, to so-so food – including tasteless cold beetroot soup, limp salad, and lamb-stew with 5 pieces pea-sized of meat there are better substitutes in this town. If you get lucky, you could get some free entertainment by sitting next to an “artist” doing the bohemian talk to some tourists in exchange for a free meal.
