Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra's education concert series will end with a stunning concert for the whole family featuring St. Christopher Wind Quintet. The programme will include fragments from prominent composers' works accompanied by fascinating stories about five wind instruments, each of which boasts an exciting history and intriguing adventures. Founded in 2003, St. Christopher Quintet brings together five musicians, prize winners of Lithuanian and international competitions. Even though its repertoire focuses on contemporary and especially complex compositions, the ensemble also performs works of various styles from earlier eras. The quintet gained international reputation in 2007, when it won the first prize and the award for the best performance of a mandatory piece at the Henri Tomasi International Competition for Woodwind Quintets in Marseille (France). That same year it shared the fourth place with San Francisco String Quartet and New York Wind Quintet at the 6th Osaka Chamber Music Competition (Japan), which had drawn 230 contestants from all over the world. St. Christopher Quintet takes part in various music festivals and gives performances in Lithuania, France, Russia, Switzerland and elsewhere. The ensemble released a CD in 2005 and received letters of appreciation from President of the Republic of Lithuania, Valdas Adamkus, and Vilnius City Mayor, Artūras Zuokas.
