The Lithuanian Karaite or Karaim (or just plain Karaite) are the smallest historical ethnic community in Vilnius, with just 150 or so remaining members of a people who settled in the region in the 14th century. Adherents to the Old Testament and the Decalogue but disbelievers in the Talmud, the Karaite remain an enigmatic community and probably always will. Their Moorish-looking Kenesa, built in 1922, is never open, but it's worth a visit for its fascinating exterior design. Go round the back and jump over the fence for a closer look.
