For their new song recital, Jonas Kaufmann and Helmut Deutsch turn to works of Austrian and German romanticism and early modernism. And from Franz Liszt’s extensive and pianistically demanding songs, they will be performing settings of poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Heinrich Heine: great literature set to music by one of the great individualists, who, in meticulously tracing the texts, replaced the regular stanza construction with myriad new smaller forms.
