For a quick snack in the city centre, a visit to this house of long lasting tradition is a must. The Tresniewski buffet offers little sandwiches with various toppings and egg-based spreads. From herring-onion to cucumber-egg, hearty meat or light vegetarian, spicy or mild, there is an open-faced sandwich for every taste, all priced at €1,40 each. 18 of these spreads have been on their menu since 1902, and several have been added more recently. The most popular is supposedly bacon with egg.
Open 08:30 - 19:30. Sat 09:00 - 18:00, Sun 10:00 - 17:00.

I still tell people about this place and I was there over 7 years ago - they serve these tiny little beers and you order a few sandwiches and can stand and eat a quick snack and beverage... such a great idea and even though I wasn't 100% sure what the flavors I ordered they were delicious and if I make it to Vienna again I am planning on trying them all.

If Trzesniewski's still serves shots of cold vodka, then this place is the ideal stop during a busy day of tourism or shopping, especially in the winter. A couple of their open-faced sandwiches, a shot of cold vodka, and back out into the Inner City all fortified and restored. Total Vienna.

With several locations throughout the city (most notably at Mariahilferstrasse and at Rochusmarkt, in addition to the one listed in the Inner City), this place prides itself of being hard to pronounce and offering sandwiches that are 90 years old! Established by a Polish immigrant family in early 20th century, it has become a real institution in Vienna. My favorites are the ones with pickle spread and tomato spread, but all of them are quite unique.
