Vienna’s self-proclaimed ‘sweetest address’ consists of ten Konditorei and cafés, including the famous Café Dommayer in the 13th district where Johann Strauss gave his first waltz concert in 1849. In addition to traditional cakes and chocolates, Oberlaa specializes in seasonal Christmas loaves with orange and lemon bits, raisins and hazelnuts, known locally as Christstollen, as well as eight different flavours of Laa-Kronen, crisp and creamy Parisian-style macaroons. (Also at Babenbergerstrasse 7, M Museumsquartier, open 08:00-19:00, Sun 10:00-19:00).
