Whilst much of Venice itself could be considered hugely photogenic, Burano might just be the very definition of the term. This residential archipelago some 40 minutes from Venice by boat is one bright house after another, the whole place resembling the most intense of colour explosions. Burano really is a photographer's paradise. Originally used to show where each family’s quarters ended, the choice of colours is now strictly controlled by the government. The island has also always been famous for its handmade lace products, as well as its yellow ‘S’ shaped biscuits. Be sure to try them!
